Eightpagepullout - Stand Up

What an amazing shock it was to listen to this release from Eightpagepullout.

“Optimism in the face of adversity” says the press release about the inspiration behind this Ep. ‘Stand Up’ definitely put a smile on my face after a long hard day at work.

When members of a band have been together since school age, there always seems to be a connection, an interaction between the members that runs through the music and just makes them sing, perform and sound much better; just look at Elliot Minor. The band began like many musicians in the pop punk genres, but have changed direction slightly with this releasing having a rockier edge to it.

The Ep begins with pounding drums; catchy guitar riffs floating about and electronic tings buried underneath everything else all wrapped up in a very busy title track. The style continues through the majority of the five tracks; the bouncy ‘Happy Ending’ with its accumulating beat, the electric riffs and attention seeking bass lines of ‘For King And Country’ and the unpredictable ‘Miss Adventure’ in which the beat changes from subtle guitars and sharp pings one minute to intense and electric guitars the next.

As well as some excellent sounds, the vocals also stand out, mainly for the harmonies. Each track beams with talent and has me tapping my pen and toes in time to the tune. Even as ‘Miss Adventure’ turns into more of a screamer, the talent is obviously towering. When listening to these tracks, I could almost imagine these lads up on a high stage, giving a memorable performance and unforgettable instrumentals. This is just the start of something BIG…
