Unexploded Shells

Unexploded Shells are an unsigned band from Leeds who claim that they are a group of very different people with nothing in common. They also see this as an advantage allowing the band members to individually bring more to the table. Unfortunately Unexploded Shells are soon to be splitting up, but as I received this CD to review I thought I should give it a listen.

Upon first listening to “Hexthorpe 1” I have to admit I wasn’t greatly impressed. The songs seem slightly generic and flat in many places. This may be due to the poor production of the CD but it seemed that they were not really creating anything exciting or fresh.

In the past reviewers have used comparisons with The Clash, The Buzzcocks, and The Who; although I can see where these comparisons have come from I feel Unexploded Shells lack something that these bands had. Who will ever know if Unexploded Shells could find that something, but with the band performing their final gig on March 28th maybe you should check them out and answer that question yourself.
