Essie Jain

The operatic and bold voice of Essie Jain is one of impressive proportions. Atmospheric and heart warming, it forms images of tickling streams and loveably medieval romps, but more than one track from this angelic voice can become a little tedious.

Any song could easily fit into a scene from Mel Gibson’s Scottish epic, “Brave heart”, with the love-telling vocal projection of a delicate voice, but as the album progresses in its steady and tip toeing stage it appears that very little ground is gained. The instruments remain fragile and the voice continues its predominant streak of providing complete importance to the album. The divergence is non-existent and variety appears all but absent in this choir like monologue.

Sure enough, one of these aromatic ballads is a tantalising experience, but once one has graces your stereo the tone perfect voice of Jain can begin to seem repetitive, and in time, grind on you.
