The Fall The Rise - Interlopers
“The Fall The Rise” are a Birmingham based four piece who have spent their lives in bands together as first and foremost they are long term friends. The Alternative sounds of “The Fall The Rise” is a conglomeration of influences from band members Martin Hurley (Vocals), Simon Gough (Guitar), Christopher Schaunig (Bass) and Steven Holmes (Drums) after deciding that the most important part of their writing process, was that they themselves enjoy the music.
“Interlopers” is the excellent debut release from “The Fall The Rise” which has already received acclaim from Zane Lowe of Radio one. The First track “Bite Your Tongue and Walk Away” is probably the most commercial of the album and is currently receiving airplay on MTV2 and Rockworld TV. “The Fall The Rise” combine edgy and angular guitar sounds with hints of exciting melody and traces of raw energy. The cutting screams which are thrown into the mix alter the dynamic completely and make the music they create exhilarating throughout.
Despite the continual changes in musical shape and direction the band maintain a big sound which suggests a band with a lot of live potential. Stand out tracks which demonstrate the band’s sound perfectly are “A Kiss For The Dying” and final track “'The Sward Of Damocies”. Despite mentioning these tracks as good examples of the band’s sound, they do not necessarily show their best songs. The album is filled with great songs and this makes choosing stand out tracks difficult. The slightly dirty sound quality which the band has created in their recording only adds to the feel of the music.
With a music scene currently ruled by indie bands “The Fall The Rise” are different. Although there sound isn’t completely original they take influences from bands that stretch musical boundaries and try to make something new from music. Forget having a formula for writing a song, or needing a catchy chorus to draw in the masses. This band makes a big sound that they enjoy and hope that other people feel the same, and if they don’t then they just carry on.
“Interlopers” is a ten track debut which deserves the airplay and recognition it will get. “The Fall The Rise” are for fans of bands such as At The Drive-In, Deftones and early Biffy Clyro. If you are a fan of these bands or music which in tries to do something different, then check out “The Fall The Rise”.
