The Envy Corps - Story Problem
This single has been re-released to coincide with the Iowa trio’s latest album ‘Dwell’. It is a beautifully crafted, stomping track which deserves to take The Envy Corps brand of melodic, jangle infused indie-rock onto a greater audience. The band have been plugging away for a number of years working their way through a number of line-up changes and forging their sound through an incessant touring schedule.
‘Story Problem’ is an exemplary slice of atmospheric indie power-pop reminiscent of Arcade Fire featuring some gorgeously slick guitar work from Brandon Darner which is bound to evoke favourable comparisons with the likes of Johnny Marr and Will Sergeant. The track builds gradually from somewhat understated beginnings; incorporating several layers as it develops before reaching something approximating a colossal, sky-scraping conclusion. If this single is indicative of the quality of material contained on ‘Dwell’, we may be hearing a lot more of The Envy Corps over the coming months. ‘Story Problem’ is a class A single, a potential highlight of barn-storming sets at summer festivals and a guaranteed future soundtrack to ‘Goal of the Month’ on Match of The Day. Superb stuff!
