Quirky post-punk.
Norwegian trio Ungdomskulen’s take on progressive post-punk is an intoxicating fuzzy dream-like ride, beautifully ethereal but bathed in wave after wave of heady feedback noise from the guitars.
The quirky vocal style and a tune that verges on new wave and has a really danceable funky beat, combined with the heavy fuzz means that ‘Modern Drummer’ has a range of possible comparisons. The vocals and tune bring to mind a more off kilter Arcade Fire while the harder more frenetic side is reminiscent of other ‘post something’ bands Sounds Like Violence and Secondsmile. Overall though this download release almost belies comparison because this track is just so great, in fact it’s so good that I immediately wanted to hear more, but alas there is only one track on the CD, damn.
