Music Roll Exchange - 'Silverplated' / 'Broken Sea'

Music Roll Exchange (which is a frankly terrible name for a band) are an unsigned band made up of “two Yorkshiremen, a Brummie-Scot and a Londoner”. Their sound is a “blend of rock and pop, drenched in catchy hooks and melodies” and has garnered some attention within “a small corner” of the music industry. The two tracks on this single ‘Silverplated’ and ‘Broken Sea’ are both well written and hook heavy; exuding a degree of sophistication which you feel sets them apart from the madding crowd. ‘Silverplated’ has a particularly strong chorus and some delightful harmonies; however a slightly ill-fitting and unnecessary guitar break lets the track down slightly. However, you get the feeling that re-recording the track with a name producer would trim away some of these frilly edges and result in a tighter track.

‘Broken Sea’ is a more reflective, straightforward piece. A sombre, wistful track, it again features the gorgeous harmonies which appear to be a prominent feature of the band’s sound. The track itself has touches of ‘Second Coming’ era Stone Roses about it, and grooves with an introspective menace.

Music Roll Exchange undoubtedly have potential and whilst there are definitely elements of their sound which need fine-tuning, there is enough promise contained within these two tracks to suggest they may just have a promising future ahead of them.
