3 Pints From Happy EP

The signs are not promising and the CD is not even dangerously close to my stereo yet. The laughable band name for starters and the first thing that becomes conspicuous about lead track 'Don’t Tell Your Mother (We’ve Gone To Mars)' is the horrendous whine the lead singer possesses. After a few repeated plays his voice becomes tedious, at times close to unbearable.

Behind the voice lies an admirably chirpy, feel-good nature that raises their somewhat competent playing ability and is repeated on third track 'Never Get Me Down' which, for some bizarre reason, was overlooked to be the lead track. Regardless, both this and next track 'Human Weather' tend to show the band showcasing a more joyous, virtuoso approach. Second track, 'Miles', is a far more laid-back, thoughtful affair resulting in a subtle and rewarding ditty.

Counting my blessings the band has shown a different side and the CD has finally started to garner a more favourable reaction. Yet four rudimentary tracks in and still little that sets the band apart from every other up and coming indie band apart from an infamous name. The progress, if any, ends there. Shamefully the EP ends on a pretty, pointless instrumental and all hope is dashed.
