Dominici • A Trilogy • Part 3

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is now upon us. It’s the third and final chapter, the grand finale from the Charlie Dominici trilogy.
For those not in the know, Charlie Dominici is best known as the second vocalist for progressive metallers Dream Theatre and now as the frontman for his own project, Dominici, a well respected name in progressive metal circles.

The trilogy began following Dominici’s return to music, after spending some time out of the business and working as a finance manager.
‘O3 A Trilogy, Part 1’ was released in 2005 as the first edition of a 3-piece concept album, the second album followed in 2007 and now in 2008 we have the third and final instalment of the Dominici trilogy and it is certainly epic.

For a quick overview, part 1 began with a polished up acoustic offering, part 2 focused on the old Dream Theatre progressive sound and now that the end is here, Dominici has pulled out all the stops and I mean all!

Opening track ‘King Of Terror is a near eight minute long opus. It begins with the recorded voice of a newsreader speaking of a nuclear blast. A slow mournful build up follows, with piano melody, strings and ballad type vocals. Suddenly the rest is thrown in to the mix, the huge guitar riffs competing for centre stage it seems alongside Charlie Dominici’s whopping stadium-esque vocals.
This track certainly sets the tone of the album. It has a mighty, fearless sound throughout with very obvious high production, polished until it shines.

To understand lyrically you would probably need to have listened to the other album’s in the trilogy, although if you’re not fussed about the story and simply want to hear some pretty insane guitar mastery and huge sounding vocals then go ahead and get this right away.

If you have been waiting especially on the other hand then what are you waiting for, you will without doubt love every last minute.

To sum up ‘O3 A Trilogy, Part 3’ may be seen as a highly pretentious piece of work by some, over produced by others and sheer brilliance by some more. The truth is that Charlie Dominici has created something with skills that only the very best possess.
The incredible technicality, mighty guitar riffs and insane production quality are all utilised to create something epic, something massive and something that will not be forgotten easily.

For anyone with a passion for all things powerful and all things prog, Dominici is probably the best answer.
