The Steers - Julia

Welsh indie rockers, The Steers, have listed The Jam and The Cure as their influences and if you through in there Chris Urbanowicz’s from Editors guitar effects pedal, you get a good feel for what this single is like.

With a few seconds build up the song kicks in with fast paced disco style indie rock which leads to lead singer, James Rowland, singing about splitting up with the poor Julia. So guys, if you have a girlfriend called Julia, this will not make a great gift for her. The chorus is where Sid Nair’s guitar uses the same effects that have been so good to Editors and it works well on this song. With Ben Andrews bass and Kris Riddiford drums added the song leaves you foot tapping satisfied

Wales has produced quite a few good bands recently, from Manic Street Preachers to Los Campesinos! and The Steers could easily fall into this category too. Sadly they have just finished a full UK tour.
