Inside & Out
Covers are always difficult to do - if you stick to the formula of the original, you risk being labelled as unoriginal, and if you haven't done it well, you also risk being labelled as rubbish and an insult to the original. If you completely make over the original, there is a high chance it will still result in embarrassment of both you and the original artist. Luckily, Feist have successfully managed their own unique take on this Bee Gees classic disco track and the gentle, unique vocals do justice to 'Inside & Out'.
Backed by a new mix from Ewan Pearson, the song starts off slowly, before capturing the listener with the soft voice of Feist. Before the song kicks off in the first chorus, the song has an almost magical essence, then allowing the backing track a chance to takeover and give the song a thicker texture. Although the song is catchy, it takes a few listens to truly appreciate it for what it is, and it is likely to blend in with background noise after a while. Despite this, it is an excellent cover, just don't overplay it.
