Representing Estonia at Eurovision…

Somewhere at sometime, a large factory appeared and out popped each month a new solo female artist. Young, attractive with a good voice that happily sings ballads for food and board. Well, here we have another one in Estonian songstress Hannah, a girl who ticks all of the boxes except one: Originality. This isn’t to say that she’s not talented - as she is - but there is nothing new here.

‘You & I’ is a nice clean radio-friendly, mid-tempo ballad. It has the hallmarks of a ‘first single’ for a reality music-show winner, or a Eurovision entry, written all over it, and only the slight Country feel, in a LeAnn Rimes kind-of-way gives it any credibility. This is Pop/Ballad by numbers with the odd trumpet burst, piano melodies and a foot-tapping drum beat, building up to a big chorus. The only thing that will stop this being a hit is airplay and advertising, so her future is in the hand of her agent and promoter.

There is no real background information on her MySpace page (www.myspace.com/hannahfanclub) other than she is from UK (!?), which is a shame as Hannah has already had five successful albums in her native Estonia, and she is about to release her sixth album ‘Everything Is Changing’ in UK (her first outside of Estonia). In fact her second album, ‘Ballads’ is the best selling album by a female artist of all time in her home country.

However, whilst we see that in Estonia she is a legend already (at the tender age of 26), it is hard to see her making huge waves in either UK or America. It’s a shame but at someone once said, “That’s life!”…
