Asteroids Galaxy Tour demo
Pop technicolour is the new term commonly used for crazy electro, happy-go-lucky ineffective records; those of which will fail to change your life for better or worse. Let me introduce The Asteroids Galaxy Tour and their five track demo. Imagine a combination of Alphabeat (the Scandinavian comparisons are scarily apparent) and Hercules and Love Affair. A pop and jazz infused sound so funky, it might even blow your purple flares from your wig stricken bodice.
It’s pretty harmless throughout, however doesn’t manage to captivate the audience (being I) in any shape or form. Duffy lookalike and soundalike Mette, borders on whiney at times, not grasping the innocent, naïve approach they evidently expected to portray. “The Sun ain’t shining no more” is catchy enough, whilst Golden Age (the next single) is rather radio friendly. Lady Jesus is also alright, but nothing more than average, which is where they are undoubtedly going wrong.
The band have had a turbulent year, producing the record after work hours in a one bedroom flat- spending entireties of evenings drunk or high on music. Living, breathing, celebrating their creation, then no doubt realising Alphabeat are already dancing our socks off with ‘fascination’. It’s a painful industry, the music one; The Asteroids Galaxy Tour probably won’t crack it.
