A group of Teenagers who don’t moan or whinge.

It is another European focused summer and anytime the major footballing nations gather to lock horns, there is always a rise in the amount of continental flavoured songs hitting the airwaves. Thankfully there are no British teams there so there has been no football related songs from the host nations and the new tracks coming from mainland Europe avoid the beautiful game as well. So what we are left with are some choices of current Europop and of the best around is ‘Make It Happen’ by The Teenagers.

The spoken word section in the middle would give the game away about The Teenagers being French if you were unsuspecting about their origins but if there is one thing the French do well, aside from cuisine, fashion and the popular notion of romance, it is electro pop. There is no doubt that future generations will extol the virtues of Air, Daft punk and Ivan Smagghe and although it too early to place The Teenagers anywhere near this bracket, you can see that they are on the right path.

It is not a kick in the pantaloons away from being a song offered by the sort of Europop act that will have many R13 readers tearing their hair out but that’s more due to the blurring of genres that have been occurring lately. When it is done well, it’s a good thing and The Teenagers just about manage to hang on the right side of likeable. Having that sense of 80s electro will entice many listeners and if ‘Make It Happen’ was made twenty five years ago, it would have been perfect for some light-hearted family film from the 1980s. Johnny Five would appreciate this song and so should you.
