It's Electro But Is It Pop?
Having just finished a gruelling UK tour Cleveland native White Williams releases ‘Violator’ the latest not too shabby single from his debut album.
Violator’ is synth pop very much along the lines of a happier John Foxx or a slightly more laid back Cut Copy, as a result it’s difficult to figure out when exactly Williams intends people to listen to work. Don’t get me wrong, I like it, it’s quirky the electronic beeps and bops are easy on the ear and for an electronic musician he’s a more than decent singer - but it doesn’t take you anywhere. It’s not a club hit, it’s not a boisterous bar room favourite and it just lacks the more thoughtful tempo of a chill out number.
So with that it’ll have to be labelled as miscellany, an enjoyable listen for sure but not one that’ll demand repeated playing. Promising but not the finished article, at 24 White Williams will surely be back with a more commanding number given time.
