Kidda - Smile
Summer seems to be here and the usual batches of feel good soulful summertime songs are starting to appear. Kidda’s new single “Smile” attempts to fit into this category too but while it has a soulful tune and is chilled out enough for the summer it just doesn’t fit together.
Released by Skint Records, Brighton based Ste McGregor the man behind Kidda, is clearly influenced by fellow stable mate and fellow Brighton native Fatboy Slim but without the same results that will appeal to the mass audience.
“Smile” starts off very promising, the soulful rhythm and relaxing female vocals lead into a false sense that the song will be like this all the way. Then the mixing starts and takes away what is good about the song. Having said that, hearing the Ski Sunday theme tune on a soulful record is definitely a first and one that should be congratulated.
