Somewhere between dull and decent

Aesthetically the primary half of The Indigo Road (guitarist Mark Herbert and vocalist Heidi Jo Hines) resemble cheap look-alikes of Tom Waits and Sharleen Spiteri. Musically however they sound uncannily like upper end Rose Street buskers at the height of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Their music, whilst being both wistfully easy listening and relatively well constructed anytime pop, is also horrendously dull. Think of a 24 hour Coronation Street marathon but with none of the ‘exciting’ episodes • just ones with Rita in the corner shop and Curly Watts in the pub. Safe, tedious and unforgettable there is little to dislike but even less to praise.

Not wanting to be too critical, this is the sound a collection of musicians just starting out; doubtless through time and practice, trial and error, there will be more to dissect and enjoy than this rather numb effort. Neither dreadful or delightful I’m afraid.
