Helping To Mourn The End

Things seem a little confusing in the Young Hollywood camp. According to the press release accompanying their latest EP release, ‘Asleep At The Switch’, the Bristol based band are taking some time out ahead of writing their first full length album. Sounds all straight forward until you dig a little deeper and delving into the murky realms of Myspace and the band’s official page, it appears Young Hollywood are no more, having split at the beginning of the summer. Makes you kind of wonder why they are releasing this EP but at least fans will now have something to mourn their demise to.

Brutality is the name of the game for Young Hollywood as ‘Asleep At The switch’ sets out to slam you against the floor and cheerfully tear your skin from your bones with four bone crushing assaults of anger fed thrash. Aggressively leading the charge, the brilliantly titled ‘We Disco, You Ain’t’ opens proceedings with a Gallows-esque hail of screams and snarls colliding with a fist pounding avalanche of drum beats nicely parried out by some ferocious riffs. Refusing to calm down, the aptly named ‘Juggernaut’ stomps angrily by in a rush of snarls complete with a somewhat sedate drum breakdown towards the end before making way for the viciousness of ‘Retailer Park Trash’ leaving only the raw adrenaline packed punch of ‘Repertoire’ to nail you back on the floor once more. Promising stuff for the UK hardcore scene, if only the break up stories were simply mere rumours.
