Moody female-fronted rock
Things are looking good for The Duke Spirit at the moment. Greeted with critical acclaim and gaining armies of fans at every turn, they are a textbook example of how a great band should build. Slowly but steadily since their inception, they've been garnering attention and praise, reaching skywards from grassroots laid down. New single 'Lion Rip', which serves as yet another taster for their forthcoming, eagerly-anticipated debut full-length, sows yet another seed for the foundations of this band. A genuinely exciting prospect when there is so much drivel about, this song represents all that is enthralling about The Duke Spirit, a smoky rock song propelled by a pop chorus, and front lady Liela Moss. She has a voice that sounds like none of the traditional female comparisons – she's not Bjork and she's not Debbie Harry, nor PJ Harvey. Instead, she is the band’s secret weapon and with songs like this in their arsenal, there is no way The Duke Spirit can fail.
