From BBC Composer to secret Cherryfalls Performer

As I write this review, Cherryfalls are playing in their hometown of Glasgow (at the King Tut's - go, if you hurry you can still make it). The general euphoria that comes from playing in your - on a world-wide scale - own back garden will drive Cherryfalls to put on a good show, or at least I hope it would. If I'm really good with my timing, they could even be be playing their new upcoming single, "Standing Watching" right now as I listen to it. Do the crowd like it? Based on my "near-Simon Cowell standard" mental critique of it, I'd say they do indeed. But why? I mean, this song is completely indifferentiable from countless other songs at its first hearing - but after a few listenings you start to appreciate the intricacy of the interesting guitar part that isn't just Joe McAdam (vocals/guitar) plugging away at chords. Hell no, this other guy, Adrian Woodward, is like Jonny Greenwood if Jonny Greenwood was into the more poppy side of guitar songs and spoke with a Scottish accent (oh, and didn't play for Radiohead, of course). Everyone else is so-so - the bass and drum parts aren't the most exciting things to come out of Scotland, that's for sure - but it's all pleasant enough. That clean, yet chunky guitar sound and rather cute lyrics (Hey - they censored some swear words with a pinball machine noise at one point, how much more cute do you need?) hearten me enough to give this an esteemed four thumbs up. Uh, now to grow two more thumbs...
