Biography
Aqualung is Matt Hales. He was born January 1972 in Southampton. Matt took to music in a big way from a young age, at 16 he was awarded a scholarship for Winchester and by 17 he conducted a 60 piece orchestra performing 'life cycle' the first symphony he had written. While studying for a music degree at London's City University he was creating and distributing Police covers with his brother. The degree included engineering and production skills at the BBC's Maida Vale studio. Finishing his degree he went straight into a band 'Ruth' that successfully signed a record deal. This didn't last long before he regrouped into 'The 45's'. After this band collapsed Matt decided to go his own way and pursue his own music under the name 'Aqualung'. His first single was pushed into the public's eye (or ear?) as it was used on TV and cinema advertisement campaign for the VW Beetle.
