Biography

HUMANITY formed in September 2000 at Cambridge Regional College, Cambridge, England. The first line-up of the group featured the current members with John Neill on bass. This early line up played a number of very good live shows and also recorded a demo but, after a year of writing, rehearsing and playing live it was inevitable that some changes would have to be made if the band were to progress. For some time, it had become obvious that John's heart didn't lie within HUMANITY, and that he didn't want to focus on the band full time. He also expressed an urge to try other musical interests. The two companies parted on good terms and the band started searching for a replacement. John has since gone on to become a DJ.
After an extensive search, Chris LeMottee was chosen as bassist. In true HUMANITY style his audition wasn't
exactly run-of-the-mill, with the audition consisting of Chris playing his bass down the phone to the other
members who had called him during a rehearsal! After a couple of weeks rehearsing with Chris, the band went
off to Purple Studios to record their debut E.P, 'As Humanity Fades'. This became the bands first 'official' recording, with the demo being released at Chris's live debut on 12th November 2001. Since then it has
sold over 400 copies, and earned the band a good reputation and strong following, not to mention some high
profile gigs namely The Dublin Castle, Camden, and the 'home of heavy metal' that is The Ruskin Arms, West
Ham.
The band gigged solidly for the next year getting a name for themselves as a force to be reckoned with on the Cambridge live music circuit. HUMANITY began selling out every venue they performed in, whether they were the headlining act or support. With their fans demanding more recorded material, HUMANITY returned to Purple Studios almost exactly a year later and recorded the follow up to ‘As Humanity Fades’. The new EP was far better both in quality and in song writing, and the ‘Justify’ EP further widened the bands’ fan base, with copies being sent to Europe as well as being sold to fans on the local music scene. Around this time the CD was also sent to a small independent record label called Killin Time Records

The band had tried and failed to get any interest from major metal labels. Steve stumbled upon Killin Time's website by accident while searching for other European labels. Not only were the label in the local area, they were also looking for a band specifically like HUMANITY. After a lot of email and post being sent between the band and label, Killin Time signed HUMANITY in February 2003. After more gigging, the time was right to focus on the first, full-length HUMANITY album.

The initial plan was to return to Purple Studios and record some more tracks and butt them onto the end of the 'Justify' E.P. However, at the labels suggestion a new studio, Mastertone, was found in Runcorn, Cheshire. After a brief visit, the band found that top metal producer Pete 'Pee Wee' Coleman, who was famed for his work with bands such as Paradise Lost, Napalm Death and Amorphis, would engineer and mix the album.

The album WHEN SILENCE CALLS was recorded and mixed in 35 days, and features the best of HUMANITY'S current live set, At this point, in stepped the Carbon 13 label run in conjunction with the Mastertone Studio. Graham Woodcock and Andy Bramhall, the co owners, were so taken aback by the professionalism and quality of such a young band that they came to an arrangement with Killin Time to sign Humanity for a two album world wide deal The album is scheduled for release in SEPT 2004 and marks a new turning point in HUMANITY'S short, yet ultimately successful career. The future bodes bright for HUMANITY, and looks to remain that way.
