Distance in Embrace - To Hell With Honesty
After five years together as a band and many more as friends, the guys of Distance in Embrace have learnt to put all arguments aside and focus on the music and friendship to pull them through to battle another day. What better way than to write countless tracks (kind of like a commentary) on the changing fortunes and experiences that the band has been through since the release of their debut. Put all these songs together and what have you got, great tracks for their second album ‘To Hell With Honesty’.
There are two very distinct sides to this release. There are the lighter toned guitars with vocals that are calmer on one side of the equation and on the other, a more aggressive sound, full of anguish with darker guitars and husky vocals. Sometimes each side is individual and separate, choruses and verses may sound very different, which is the reason it stands out, but there are times where the two are combined and really make you realise the talent behind the songs.
Distance in Embrace is a very energy driven band, full of passion and enthusiasm. Throughout the ten songs present on this release, they make use of their epic guitar riffs and ambitious vocals incredibly well. It sounds as thought each little detail of a song has been carefully crafted and delicately placed in a position to receive a listener’s full attention. The closer for example, ‘Affection and Anguish’ ends in such a way that is gentle and one to be remembered for its big wave goodbye.
When purchasing this CD you also get a bonus DVD, which includes music videos for ‘On The Verge’ and ‘Far From Eye, Far From Heart’, a live performance of ‘A Bolt From The Blue’ and ‘Ambush’ as well as a tour video, making of the album and comments by friends and other bands (the last three all being in German). The guys are hoping to plan a few UK tour dates in the autumn, so if like me, you like what you hear, stay tuned for news of an approaching tour in the future.
