Wacky Brilliance
The Victorian English Gentlemens Club are back with a quirky and catchy single that may not live up to their genteel name but will certainly stick in your mind. Taken from the band’s new album ‘Love On An Oil Rig’, ‘Parrot’ is a wacky mishmash of trippy, raw beats, hollering vocals and industrial sounds that explode into a careening, off-kilter chorus full of unconventional vocal harmonies. There’s a mad brilliance to the eclectic snatches of different instruments displayed on this album, one minute there’s a metallic percussive pulse and the next acoustic guitars are parading to a more traditional rhythm.
We always need more interesting bands who challenge the current chart material and Victorian English Gentlemens Club could just provide the right level of wackiness, their new album will certainly be one to watch this year.
