Madness - Sugar And Spice

With a music career that extends over thirty years, that’s nearly tens years before I was even a sparkle in my parents eyes, Madness has had a manic career before them and the new single ‘Sugar and Spice’ will likely attract the attention of many.

Focusing two-tone on the music with elements of a lot of genres, ‘Sugar and Spice’ is a relaxing, fairly moderately moving tune that seems to concentrate more on lyrics and the meaning behind the song rather than the making music notable. There is one particular verse that has to be mentioned. “We bought a flat in Golders Green/A second hand fridge and a washing machine/You found a job in Marks and Spencers/Filling shelves sure it was pretty senseless”. There is something so simple, honest yet effective about this verse, especially when placed on top of music created in the very same manor. This is something that Madness is able to do with ease and Suggs sings with complete sentiment and familiarity. Not a bad tune!
