Crying Lightning

After the sojourn that saw The Last Shadow Puppets grab the spotlight Monkey fever is with us again, and oh how we have missed them.

For a returning single, the first impressions of new single 'Crying Lightning' are misleading. While this lacks the audacity of 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' or the bombast of 'Brianstorm', after a few repeated listens you begin to finally appreciate the intricacies that set the song apart. From Alex Turner’s lyrical sweet tooth for his tongue in cheek filth regarding a bag of pick n mix, to the manner he seductively croons as if reading a Mills and Boon novel.

The band themselves seem to have been paying attention to the many talents of producer Josh Homme with a matured yet slightly creepy sound featuring spaghetti western guitar and ominous basslines. Nothing revolutionary then but after a few repeated listens you finally realise that those cheeky monkeys have done it again.
