Help me if you can I’m feeling down…

Now this is something like I’ve not reviewed before. Normally this would be a good thing, however hearing this is a nostalgic poke in the eye. King Creosote have called himself/themselves after a protective liquid wood coating, which is an interesting decision, and I always think then when you start boasting that you are a king, then you had better be bloody good. This is not.

There has an annoying loop as the main drumbeat. The actual quick dance-drum beat is fine, but there is the obvious start and end of the loop. Layered on top of this we have frantic synthesisers that have not seen the light of day this side of 1983, and I remember getting Herbie Hancock’s ‘Rock It’ free with 10 tokens off the back of Rice Krispies packets. That was only was only marginally better than Wham’s ‘Club Tropacana’ that I also got a few weeks thanks to Snap, Crackle & Pop…

The vocals are laid-back and slightly monotone in a New Romantics meets Electronica kind of way, which could well be a good way to describe the single. If once wasn’t enough we also get a remixed version of the song too. This song sounds no better a second time I can assure you. Apparently ‘No One Had It Better’, but after this, I can tell you mate, I certainly did thank you very much!

Everything else that was horrible and crap from the 80’s seems to be making a re-appearance so I suspect that these guys will big huge - and Molly Ringwald will win an Oscar, and football shorts will be as small as my pants… Not good.
