One of your 5 a day

‘Watching The Burglars’ is the second single taken from the forthcoming album “Love On An Oil Rig” from the Cardiff art-rockers and while being darkly poppy and quirky as is their raison d’être, it is also one of their more melodic and memorable tunes. Short and direct, ‘Watching the Burglars’ has an Adam and the Ants, poppy new wave twang. The VEG Club do have their moments but this track is more accessible and immediately likeable than can usually be expected from them; it’s the super-catchy chorus that’s the driving force here. Track two is ‘Polish Man’, it’s slightly more familiar territory, with an off kilter angle from stop-start rhythms and distortion which never-the-less draws you easily in to their grubby, melodic, off centre look at things. Judging by this single and their last the forthcoming album should be interesting, poppy, jagged, and worth a listen.
