Colloblast

Left Side Brain, the Bristol based riff-rockers, return with ‘Colloblast’ the lead single from their third full length record ‘Collider’. It’s a heavy slab of a song with a big oppressive riff serving a lolloping groove. On this single Left Side Brain don’t sound a million miles away from the poppy psych-metal of Yank heroes Torche and that can’t be bad at all. The pummelling riffs here are sweetened by the soaring melodic delivery chorus - an old trick maybe but it recalls Therapy? at their best. It’s effective but however soothing the delivery may be, the lyrics paint a picture of frustration and anger: "I lost control/Did you not notice that? I lost control/I made those promises/It makes no difference when I lose it". It’s good to have a British band making themselves heard with such panache amid recent American dominance of heavy rock. The b-side to ‘Colloblast’ is nice nod to one of the band’s big influences, Kerbdog, with a cover of ‘Severed’ and a good job too.
