While their efforts may merit applause, The Phenomenal Handclap Band are essentially a collection of musicians and artists from New York City. Their single, '15 to 20', utilises such numbers with a hotchpotch of influences stretching from funk to pop via disco, prog and electro with guest lead singer Lady Tigra’s vocals heralding a childish playfulness.
Quite a few bases covered then but put simply, few tracks sound as fun. Unashamedly taking snippets from the more exciting elements of popular music and then adding a memorable twist with verses as effortless as playground chants amidst insolent keyboard and barnstorming percussion. Hell, the track even finds room for bells when everyone knows they should only be featured in Christmas songs yet here they add a welcome sense of frivolity.
With such a bountiful canvas at hand, the remix from Glimmers somehow manages to waste nine minutes by stretching rhythms and adding a few atmospheric whooshes, a distinct shame.
