For the Common Wealth - This Is Where I've Been

YK is a man of many talents. The music he creates is self-written, self recorded and self produced. He creates his own style, putting all his knowledge of the subject into creating something he believes his up to the highest of standards he is able to achieve. When you hear the dedication gone into creating ‘This is Where I’ve Been’, you will understand the enthusiasm and devotion gone is to making something enjoyable, passionate and full of talent.

The majority of tracks are fairly slow gentle ballads, however each has something that makes it unique. ‘Quiet Talk’ is the first melodious song the album produces and is a comforting song that talks to the soul. ‘Give It Up To You’ has piano segments to add depth while ‘A Small Pea Shaped Molecule Named Francis’ is the most beautiful track on the release with its piano highlight. ‘Hold It Down’ has a meaningful rap styled centre like Dizzee Rascal on the Bandaid 20 song, ‘Some People Come Around’ focuses on lyrics and vocals in more detail but ‘Jewlia’ is probably a ballad in the truest form, acoustically performed with very little music so the focus is on the words being presented. There are a few songs that add more of a pace and a louder sound to liven things up and create some splendid and quite scrumptious songs. The passion obviously lies in the acoustic music, but YK demonstrates he can do more than just one style as ‘Do What You One Two’ takes an electronic dance turn like the intro.

There are many occasions where the vocals are doubled in two different tones to sound like harmonies, one slightly superior then the other and this makes the album much more rounded.
