Ready To Break Out Of The Underground

The career of Italy’s Edenshade has been a mixed affair. Almost morphing into their very own version of VH1’s Behind The Music, Edenshade broke onto the underground metal scene in the late 90's, sparking intrigue, excitement and potential everywhere they went, a trend that was followed by their first two albums. But things started to fall apart. The 2008 release of second album, ‘The Lesson Betrayed’ in the UK was supposed to be followed by the band’s debut UK tour, one that was initially postponed before being scrapped altogether and that would eventually lead to a complete line up change. Now two years down the track Edenshade are back, sure slightly different with only two members, but none the less exciting and still brandishing a rush of potential that should have the metal scene once again eager for more.

With a sound that engulfs much bigger bands and certainly suggests to be more than the work of merely two men, ‘The Paper Days EP’ is encased in brash, finger numbing riffs that dazzle alongside Edenshade’s alluringly intoxicating melodies as Stefano Wosz and Enrico Tiberi harness a sound that is simply gigantic. From the almost feed back crush of crunching riffs that bombards the start of ‘Caress’, evolving into an infectious avalanche of melodic mastery to the sublime simplicity of ‘Swallow’ that reveals the Italian duo’s emotional side, ‘The Paper Days EP’ showcases the splendour of Edenshade, reigniting the hope that maybe this time they will not remain a mere secret of the underground but one that everyone finally gets the chance to enjoy.
