‘The Land, The Ocean, The Distance’ is the debut three track Ep from Hertfordshire quintet Heights and takes hardcore to new levels of scary!
As ‘Empires’ makes its first impression, the explosive opening note is actually enough to startle a listener not prepared for what they are about to be hit with. It is a musically dynamic song with a lot of hard hitting rhythms and plenty of screams. About half way through the five minute long tune there is an impressive combination of heightened atmospheric music and harmonies, something that really makes the track stand out for something other than its screams. ‘Paint the Sky’ is equally as startling. Musically it is hard-edged hardcore, much like the concluding track. Vocally both are far easier to listen to as they combine screams with some rough singing. Assuming both these tones are coming from one man’s set of lungs, this guy has talent. The latter of the two, ‘Worlds Apart’ has a similar atmospheric explosion of music as the opener and will grab your ear and contain your attention with its large sounds.
