Paranoia, isolation... text messaging. The horrors of modern life.

Modern life is rubbish enough without having to drag it into the sanctuary that is music. You have to be very special to pull it off. In fact, you have to be either The Kinks or The Jam. Both of which can be sound-checked in this supposedly edgy, dark single, alongside a more synthed-up version of the Kaiser Chiefs.

“Paranoia, isolation, and a sense of something lurking around the corners of life” is more the territory of ‘The Wall’ than this bouncier guitar-led jaunt. It’s not a bad single, but can be safely classed as a predictable soundalike.

‘Best Of Me’ is the radio-acceptable front, but the music gets more interesting when we stray into the synth-psych, nineties pop tinged B-side ‘I Understand’. The half-spoken vocals are slightly less irritating, and it sounds less contrived and more thoughtful. Sadly this commentary won’t go far in changing the world. But the good thing is they’re both under three minutes long, so it won’t bother you for long.
