Most people would agree that the USA has, over the last fifty years or so, produced some of the finest rock bands in the world. It is also widely accepted that it continues to do so and that many of its exports actually deserve the praise they receive. However, it is fairly undeniable that there are more than a few American bands who, despite obtaining global stardom, are less deserving of such praise. But the biggest shame of all is that, for every successful rock group or subgenre, there are about a thousand followers waiting to cash in on the enterprise. Despite this, most fans have learnt to live with the familiarity of the music. As long as the songs are good, who’s to complain? Fair enough, but one more question remains. Why do so many British groups continue to follow this trend by Americanising their own sound? Unfortunately, Lost Without Cause are one such band.

LWC are a Watford-based group that have enjoyed some success in their local area in recent years. At one point, they apparently took part in a competition in which the prize was to support Bon Jovi on their UK tour, but narrowly missed out. Unlike fellow Watford rockers Gallows, Lost Without Cause have avoided putting any of their own personality into their music, instead opting for the tried-and-tested alternative rock formula. This is mainly as a result of frontman Si’s whiney mock-American vocals.

The music isn’t bad. In fact, the guitars on both tracks here sound awesome and there is some great drumming from band member Rosetta, who recently announced that she is leaving the group. But it’s the lack of any character that lets them down. They’ve got some good tunes and talent to work with and if they stopped being afraid to be themselves, they could be so much better.
