Black Daniel - Let's Get Sued

Black Daniel offer a sound that is reminiscent of the mid nineties, from the pulsing background beats right through to the twangy vocals.

'Let's Get Sued' flows nicely as an album with a well arranged blend of sober and upbeat tracks, the guitars are light and the rhythms throb.

Songs such as 'Here comes Ceaser' add an electronic beat giving the track a monotonous tone; then there are the slow tempo and vibey tracks like 'Money' and 'Sneaky Feeling' and others like 'Then Ivy' which takes us back to electronically driven melodies but blend it into a smooth tempo. All songs seem well designed to make Craig Louis Higgins jr's distinct voice the feature.

'Lonely Screen Boy', therefore, is a complete twist with unexpectedly deep vocals anchoring the song. Black Daniel pair this neatly with a light lilting overlay making it a real oddity amongst the mix. The album quickly returns to the flow and 'Consciousness' takes us back to the expected.

These songs are catchy with just a hint of the unusual to draw you in. A great example is 'Computer Hero' which grabs your attention with slightly muted vocals then hooks you in with it's story, backed neatly by weaving guitars and rolling beats.

Black Daniel have produced a distinct, if not entirely unique, sound. They create tunes that evoke thoughts of influences that have been handed down generation to generation through bands such as Blur and Oasis and indeed right back to The Beatles.

So if you're looking for some solid songs that make good use of the traditions of Brit indie pop and that showcase a distinct voice and a talent for writing a slightly unusual and catchy tune then I highly recommend you get a copy of 'Let's Get Sued'.
