Philadelphia Grand Jury

Philadelphia Grand Jury is an Australian three-piece consisting of Berkfinger, MC Bad Genius and ex Earth Wind and Fire session drummer Calvin Welch. Together, they produce a sound that can only be described as indie-pop-garage-soul.

Played extensively across Australia’s airwaves throughout 2009, ‘The Good News’ is the band’s first release in the UK. The track starts off with a standard ‘indie’ sound; the up beat sound soon progresses to a very catchy chorus. Later on the song is brought down before building up again to that catchy chorus. This formula is repeated until you just can’t help tapping along to it. It’s a good song that will no doubt be played extensively on the radio and will appeal to a wide audience. Their sound is very much like those old Ausie ‘80s favourites, Split Enz; pretty good to be mentioned in the same sentence with such a good band. It’s a song for the summer. It’s fun and not to be taken too seriously.

They are over in the UK playing some dates throughout June and are then back here doing an extensive tour in August and September. They are known ‘literally explosive’ on stage, so I must try and catch them to satisfy my curiosity.
