This is not just another hardcore band.
'Left Fire' is the new album from hardcore rockers Arcane Roots. Room Thirteen was sent a three-track preview, made up of ‘In This Town of Such Weather’, ‘You Are’ and ‘Million Dollar Question’.
I must admit that the CD threw me a bit with its diversity. Opening track ‘In This Town of Such Weather’ features a variety of vocal techniques, from singing to screamo to rapping. Mix this with heavy guitar melodies and a thundering drum line and you’ll get the impression that this is another unoriginal hardcore band.
Bring on ‘You Are’, a light punk track that is completely juxtaposed to the first track, immediately crushing my first opinion. The vocal contribution is sweet and the guitar melodies literally make you feel as though they are dancing around you; I couldn’t have been more surprised by this contrast.
Final track ‘Million Dollar Question’ brings back the grunge that was experienced in the opening track, with screamo vocals and raw guitars. I particularly liked the guitar solo in the middle of the track, definitely my favourite track of the EP.
