'Overcome' with brilliance
What better way to celebrate the summer than with a feel good collection of songs taken from musician Ben Montague’s debut album "Overcome".
This is a very two-dimensional album full with the types of songs you are desperate to move along to, those that persuade your feet to groove and your lips to move. Two of the more notable tunes incorporating this style include ‘Can’t Hold Me Down’, an upbeat explosion of melodies with strong vocals, something between James Morrison and Ollie Mers but with a far stronger approach and more able to adapt to upbeat styles. ‘Jennifer’ is the second, which has a poppier touch and is lyrically and musically sensational.
Then there are the tracks that incorporate something softer. ‘Did You Know It’ has a slow piano where the vocals are at their strongest. With ‘Rainy Days’, melancholy can be felt though the vocals of the verses and keys are fairly upbeat. The albums title track is a ballad and is both lyrically and musically subtle and beautiful. It is impressive and makes an impact from the moment everything kicks up two paces and your heart skips a beat. Then there is ‘Weight Of Love’, a song that builds to something special with piano, strings as well as acoustic and electric guitar moments. By far one of the best tracks is the beautiful ‘Haunted’. The combination of piano, strings and vocals makes you’ll feel the tingles as you close your eyes and take it all in, with emotive lyrics.
This debut is a fine collection of tunes and what comes next can surely only be more impressive.
