Prospects are high...

This self-titled debut mini album from Essex born four-piece Johnny Get The Gun is a youthful, powerful and ambitious blend of powerful pop-punk rock.

‘You Will Be Mine’ kicks off the record with one heck of a killer punch, powering its way though with such a commanding chorus and harmonies. The drummer boy banging of ‘All Good Things’ follows this. As the drumming progresses the style of the song becomes more upbeat at times, developing with the attraction of united harmonies and a very catchy chorus while ‘Problems’ is one of the toughest sounding songs.

‘Man With a Dream’ is lighter on the ear, acoustic guitar and radiating drumming and that is about it. It gives much more attention to the vocals as they are much more connected with this tune in comparison to the other songs due to the style. It is the concluding number, ‘This Night To End’, that has one of the finest deliveries; lyrics are emotive, vocals stronger and the overall sound much more dynamic.

The vocals projected by lead singer Wayne Lightowler are haunting, ambitious and emotive but unfortunately not always powerful enough to fully grasp the song by the melodies and make a listener sit up, take note and want to seek out more. It is not until the release passes the mid way mark with ‘Give You More’ that vocals really show some strength as they grow in momentum. The voice develops well though the remainder of the CD duration and with a little more vivacity could have really made each and every song explode.

After such a determined approach to this release, the band has made a CD worth twenty minutes of your time. Johnny Get The Gun returns to the studio to work on some new material come September and we can’t wait to hear what they have in store.
