The Rebs impress
It is difficult to pigeonhole The Rebs into one specific musical category as the style of music they are creating grasps onto various elements; from synth melodies, beautiful string arrangements and driven guitars. As a whole 'In a Heartbeat' is a heavy synth driven indie pop collection of eleven (and one hidden) very engaging tunes.
As the music takes hold you may find yourself reminiscing on an Arctic Monkeys type of impression, with an added bonus of The Rebs own style. The album kicks off with the addictive and catchy repeated hooks of 'Would I Remember', which shimmers with a bright poppy future. Quickly following this is 'Always in a Heartbeat', which enters with a slightly more electronic vibe but still glimmers with potential. It is here the synth sound takes a firm hold. 'Flesh & Bones' is driven by this in the backing which makes the tune stand out, become more movable and along with the sharp guitars drives into your skull, making it one of the albums more memorable tunes. Likewise, 'Wish Your Love Away' holds the addictive synth sound that forcefully gets you up on your feet to move.
'Don't Fool Yourself' is a song that has to be played a number of times repeatedly as it is so darn catchy. There is something about its lyrical chorus and the way it is united. 'Silver Lining' differs from the other tunes on this record for its lighter touch, its slower styled melodies and its string arrangements. A small touch of this precedes though 'Just To See'. Although this tune speeds up a touch and its atmosphere grows a great deal throughout, it's still relatively soothing.
To fully understand the nature of this record and undoubtedly the talent that lies in wait, you need to listen to it first hand as words are not fully equipped to convey how ardent it is.
