Funky farmyard pop

A title like "Chicken Payback" can only mean one of two things: this is a pretentious single, designed to provoke debate about the relevance of its title, or it's a throwaway tongue-in-cheek kind of name, with the tune surely running in the same vein. With The Bees single I'd err towards the latter, but that's not to say the tune is devoid of all value. It's a cheeky, sixties slice of wacky pop that could have come straight out of various fashion adverts of late.

It's a tune that's sure to get the whole farmyard dancing, with chicken, piggy, monkey, camel or donkey being the chosen stars of the song and lyrics that even nursery school kids could remember. A bouncy, swinging beat carries the whole thing along, with the band making bizarre animal noises over a mellow guitar solo in the middle. Music doesn't get much simpler than this, but that's no insult to this chirpy, feel good tune.
