An album to ponder over
Will And The People is a vehicle for the talented mind of young Will Rendle and his band. It has been a busy year for them so far as they have been touring across the country. With the limited release of their debut album 'Morning Sun', the year doesn't look to be slowing down for this musical project.
Although their style of reggae infused indie pop will not be making an appearance in the CD collections of some individuals, praise must be given for the way in which Will crafts these songs. His song writing capability is beautifully simplistic for much of the time with cleverly written lyrics that are easy to sing-a-long with such as 'Lion in the Morning Sun'. This artistic young mind is capable of drawing upon experiences and adventures when writing and then combines words in such a way that his stories can be told effortlessly, honestly and with interest.
When adapted to music, the songs are either upbeat with fast paced melodies or are slower in nature making a ballad of some sorts; the album opener 'Troubled Pro' is more of the latter. You would expect something a little livelier for an opening track as it is the song a listener generates their first impressions by. Ultimately something that would catch a listener by the ear and entice them to want to stick it out for the remainder of the release would have been ideal. Although this was a very good song, the second track 'Salamander' had much more energy to grasp a listener and would have been preferred as the first listen.
Both of these tracks are demonstrations of the styles Will and his band can produce. As the album continues to bend back and forth between these two tempo songs, the slower and the more upbeat with some spice thrown in, you begin to appreciate the talent behind the songs. While the style may not float you boat, there is no doubting the talent behind 'Morning Sun'.
