Heavier Than Metal
"Heavier than Metal" is the second EP from Canadian heavy metal band Skull Fist. Before you even put the CD into the CD Player, you know these guys mean business; the CD features an image of a naked woman riding a tiger, whilst the CD cover depicts a giant skeleton who'd look right at home in a He-Man cartoon causing havoc in a city.
With a high-pitched vocal contribution, listeners could be forgiven for mistaking the singer to be female group member Alison Thunderland but it is in fact guitarist Jackie Slaughter. The sheer power behind is voice is breath-taking and will be easily appreciated by fans of classic metal. Add to this the galloping rhythms and rip-roaring guitar melodies and it's difficult not to start making comparisons between Skull Fist and British heavy metal favourites Iron Maiden.
My favourite track was 'Ride the Beast', which featured one of those dual guitar harmonies that just grabs you and stirs something deep inside you, leaving you powerless to resist rocking out.
