Excellent poppy rock
Let's be blunt, this is not a new sound, there is an abundance of poppy British rock bands out and about these days, so it takes something special to stand out. The Liaison may just manage that.
They've hit on just the right mix for this genre with 'Start From Scratch'. This is an EP that is chock full of catchy melodies and meaningful lyrics.
Opening song 'It's So Clear' starts things off with strong, clear vocals backed by solid supporting beats. 'Can We Still Be Friends?' is slightly slower and softer as it tells it's story, the lyrics pleading "don't waste my time ... can we still be friends" through the track.
Title track 'Start From Scratch' has you bouncing along and 'Road Trip' neatly balances changing tempos; the Guildford quartet driving the song through the choruses before deepening the mood.
The big question: is their room for another poppy rock act in the vein of early You Me At Six and Young Guns? If there is then The Liaison is sure to be a contender for it.
If you're a fan of those bands or the genre in general then you're going to like The Liaison, the tempo is right, the stories are interesting, the talent is there and the EP is highly enjoyable.
