MelonHeadMan – This Life
MelonHeadMan is a band who admit being influenced by such purveyors of Southern rock such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers and ZZ Top, to name but a few. Their music is distinct and draws on aspects of each of the aforementioned bands. Their second single, 'This Life', follows on from the success of their debut album 'The Good & The Bad' and exhibits a slightly more commercial bent to their repertoire.
There's a very interesting acapella introduction which is shortly followed by a catchy up beat and up tempo Southern light rock rhythm. The song races along and the reference to their influences begins to show, especially during the guitar break when it sounds (a bit) like Lynyrd Skynyrd. The up tempo, good time feel is evident throughout and is delivered with a good old Southern, thigh slapping happiness; though I did feel that without much of a change in tempo and/or mood, the song did go on a little too long.
