Colour Of Fire: Angst rockers who roar with the power to write fantastic songs.

Colour Of Fire are one of those bands who are instantly good. There are no dodgy singles, and everyone in the music world is singing their praises. They deserve it, and their debut album ‘Pearl Necklace’ is solid proof. Dark and brooding in places, but wild and uplifting in others, it’s an album of two halves. Second track ‘The Exile’ is a song of staggering proportions. It’s got the crowd-pleasing guitars and slamming drums, but overlaid is a gorgeously melodic voice that just melts into the surrounding air. It’s not an unusual combination, but it’s rarely done in such a convincing manner. This is a band who knows how to write a good chorus and perform it well.

Fourth track ‘Italics’ is a slightly slower paced track, but its chorus is just as uplifting. ‘9 Volter’ is the next track and is, again, slower. From here, the album calms down considerably and turns into the mid-paced music you put on after a busy day. Their slower songs sound perfect alongside heavier tracks such as the blindingly fast paced ‘Second Class Citizen’ which is full to the brim with roaring guitars and stinks of angst and pure, undiluted anger. Colour of Fire manage to leave the best to last though. After the vicious rage of ‘Hate Mail’, complete with angst-ridden shouts, comes the awesome ‘The Company Won’t Colour Me’. Its here they show off their ability to marry falsetto vocals with powerful lyrics and chilling shouts that are reminiscent of their tour buddies Biffy Clyro. It’s a suitable ending to an album which will stand Colour Of Fire away from other bands because of its diverse range of influences. Whoever your favourite band is, you’ll find something from their music stitched into this patchwork quilt of an album.
