Silvers - The Silvers EP

Brixton quartet Silvers are out to impress. Their latest EP, fresh out of makeshift studios around England's South East is a short sharp hit of mellowed technical rock that appears to be full of thought and formative tinkering. It has a feel of something that's been a labour of love, and the sense of the relationship between the musicians and the music is one that seeps through in each carefully crafted bar.

The often atmospheric quality of the instrumentals in tracks like opening 'Reactor' does bring to mind the labyrinthine creative twistings you might expect from bands like Radiohead. This gains a little weight by the time you get to 'The Shore' touching on the darker hues you can imagine the beautifully sulking Interpol producing. The off-kilter experimental limp of 'A Pattern', bursting with melodic twangs and fluttering drum beats is the track that best suggests the breadth of Silvers' vision. But then throw in the jagged math-rock edge of bands like Foals with a lighter, indie-friendly vocal and Silvers have something here that is ripe for the musical climate of late.

This is a confident and refined first offering. As Silvers continue to develop their sound they will be able to tighten up their songwriting by playing to their creative and technical strengths in a way that could make them very exciting indeed.
