Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows (D.R.U.G.S) – Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows
D.R.U.G.S is the debut album from the latest project by ex Chiodos frontman Craig Owens. Joining Owens on the album are Nick Martin (guitar/vocals), Aaron Stern (drums), Matt Good (guitar/vocals) and Adam Russell (bass).
The album opens with the recently released single 'If You Think This Song is About You, It Probably Is'. This is a great opener to any album; there's power and energy and a dark undertone to the heavy, thunderous chords. If you get a chance, you have to track down the video to this.
The album contains numerous heavy, catchy songs; all interesting in their own right and featuring the unmistakeable voice of Owens. Some of the songs are often moody, sometimes eerie and melancholic, though the melodies and heavy rhythms keep the interest throughout. Though the guitars are heavy, there are only fleeting occasions were they are allowed a strangled leap to be heard over the thundering chords. This is an album that you should have in your car; great music for a long (or even a short) journey. After only a couple of plays, I found myself singing along to the more catchy tracks; on one occasion I found myself singing 'Sex Life' at the top of my voice to the amusement of the people in the car next to me at the traffic lights.
I must commend the band for putting together a collection of very inspired song titles. An album with songs with titles such as 'Mr. Owl Ate My Metal Worm', 'My Swagger Has a First Name', 'Stop Reading, Start Doing Pushups' and 'Laminated E.T. Animal' has to be worth a listen.
The band has really tried here and shows as their enthusiasm oozes through the speakers. The songs are energetic and the lyrics often deep, though sometimes quite amusing. All of the songs have a sort of confident swagger about them. They are all tight and cleverly put together. After many more listens, I became slightly disillusioned with the similarity of some of the tracks. This resulted in only slight disappointment as this is a very good album and one that will stay in the CD changer for quite some time.
