Melodic folk-pop

The Musgraves "Lost In Familiarity EP" is a very upbeat folk-pop record full of super poppy tunes with a slightly 80s edge. Opener 'So Sofia' for some reason brings to mind a bizarre combination of Alpha Beat and Phil Collins as does 'Fortune Teller' the uber chirpy closer which also effectively plays up to 50s and 60s pop signifiers of vocal ooh's and hand claps. You can't argue that the tracks are danceable with light, airy melodies and a summery sensibility that's just made for repeated radio play but they can be a little too syrupy to be truly enjoyable and on the whole they lack any memorable moments which means they don't stay with you for very long. The Midlands based band also explore their folk side on 'Discover Me' a quieter affair with a cute banjo riff, this is by far the most palatable and interesting song although the least mainstream.
